The organizational chart shows the structure by which Guiding in BC governs itself. The Provincial Council (similar to a Board of Directors) meets during the year to democratically determine ways in which it can support and develop Guiding within the Province. Its activities are determined by the Girl Guides of Canada--Guides du Canada bylaws, POR, and Strategic Plan.
In BC, the Provincial Council determined in 1999 that its additional focus would be Training for Improved Program Delivery. Its yearly cycle of activities is developed to provide opportunities for the girls to travel and to attend camps beyond the boundaries of the areas in which the girls live. It also brings the leaders from around the province to workshops, trainings, conferences and meetings in order to improve the program for the girls. In addition to these activities, each year the Council's committees work to develop resources to assist in this program work.
The Province of BC is divided into 18 Areas, each one of which sends its representative to this Provincial Council to ensure that the girls in that Area are represented in these decisions. The 18 Areas are divided further into smaller Councils to administer Guiding locally. Presently there are 40 Division Councils and 254 District Councils.
