BLOOD SERVICES CANADA

IF YOU KNEW every minute of every day someone in Canada needs bloodwould you help?

Blood donations help cancer patients, premature babies, accident and injury victims, people undergoing surgery and transplants, as well as those suffering from blood diseases, burns and shock.

- Only 1.8% of eligible British Columbians donates blood, yet 60% of us will receive blood sometime in our lives.

- More than 2,500 blood donations are needed each week to ensure a steady supply of blood to hospitals in BC and the Yukon. Last year BC had to spend millions to import blood from Alberta and Ontario.

- Just one donation can help save up to 4 lives.

- Some medications and travel to certain countries may preclude you from donating.

- After tattooing, ear or body piercing you must wait 12 months.

Members of She-lee-aht’l District Girl Guides of Delrey Area organized a blood donor day in September. They have another on December 11th. They have signed up for the Life Link Program at Canadian Blood Services.

The Life Link Program
is a good way to encourage your circle of friends and family to donate. They offer transportation to and from the clinic and a monthly tally of units of blood donated in your name. If you would like to sign up your group, logon to www.bloodservices.ca for more information.

In the meantime,She-lee-aht'l District has pledged to donate 50 units of blood, if you would like to help out we will be making appointments for Saturday, December 11, 2004. Please call 1-888-2Donate to be a part of the She-lee-aht’l blood drive.

Please respond to Linda Scott ASAP to book a time together and show how much Girl Guides care!!!
