Blood donations help cancer patients, premature babies, accident and injury victims, people undergoing surgery and transplants, as well as those suffering from blood diseases, burns and shock. - Only 1.8% of eligible British Columbians donates blood, yet 60% of us will receive blood sometime in our lives. - More than 2,500 blood donations are needed each week to ensure a steady supply of blood to hospitals in BC and the Yukon. Last year BC had to spend millions to import blood from Alberta and Ontario. - Just one donation can help save up to 4 lives. - Some medications and travel to certain countries may preclude you from donating. - After tattooing, ear or body piercing you must wait 12 months. Members of She-lee-aht’l District Girl Guides of Delrey Area organized a blood donor day in September. They have another on December 11th. They have signed up for the Life Link Program at Canadian Blood Services. In the meantime,She-lee-aht'l District has pledged to donate 50 units of blood, if you would like to help out we will be making appointments for Saturday, December 11, 2004. Please call 1-888-2Donate to be a part of the She-lee-aht’l blood drive. |
