A Lone Brownie Travels the World

For the past year, Anna, a Lone Brownie from British Columbia, had a great adventure most of us just dream about.

With her mother and father they set out with a pack on their backs and a lot of spirit in their hearts to fulfill their dream. They were able to explore the following countries, Canada, (From one coast to the other including sailing trips on the West coast) USA, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia (Bali), Thailand, Brunei, England, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Belgium and France.

Anna’s parents worked out a way for her not to miss out on school work by setting up a school web site. Also, a web site was set up for Anna to do her Brownies by LONES. So for the past year she was able to do the Program while on this great adventure. This was International live! What a great chance to do the Widening and Outlook challenges as she actually come across the real answers on her day to day tours and travels.

Anna was able to make contact with Brownies from Australia and exchange ideas and take part in their program.

Quotes:
"Stuff that I did on my Sabbatical
Stuff that I liked to do:
. I liked to go biking with a friend
. Swimming in a pool or at the beach
. Riding an elephant
. Camping at Lac Magog (Quebec)
. Playing PLAYSTATION in the truck
. Eating an Aussie Sausage Sizzle

Stuff that I didn’t like:
. Sleeping in a tent when it’s raining
. Doing homework in the car

The best part of the Sabbatical was meeting new girls and playing with them. They did different stuff than I do and I learnt what they do and the way they talk.

The worst part of the trip was doing schoolwork when I wanted to go play with my friends.

Would I go again?
I would like to go on another trip like this but not as long. It gets very tiring after a while I would like to go to Australia and Fiji again. I would also like to go to Egypt to see the Pyramids and the Sphinx."

For those of you that have been putting of travel plans until your children are older and out of school – it can be done now. With technology the way it is done today you can keep up with school, banking, travel bookings, work (if you want) and even Guiding by LONES.

This was a great experience for me as Anna’s SNOWY OWL to be able to follow along on all their adventures this past year.

Yours in Guiding,
Snowy Owl, Judy Sorensen
