lones resources
Lones are girls who are unable to attend regular meetings because of distance from a unit, health, or physical challenge, school workload, lack of time, or transportation.
Lone Guiding carries out the Guiding program by mail. A Lone is assigned to a unit and she has the responsibility to correspond regularly with her Guider. Lone units are small and members live throughout British Columbia. If a girl moves temporarily to another country, she may continue her Canadian Guiding program by becoming a Lone.
Please be aware of any Lone Members living in your Area and keep them informed about special events. Encourage them to attend District/Division/Area or Unit meetings and events whenever possible and make them feel welcome.
Lones are eligible to apply for Provincial, National and International camps and events. Applications are available from the Provincial Lones Adviser or from the Unit Guider. Any Lone applying for an event should contact her Camp Adviser or International Adviser to help with the application forms.
Do you have waiting lists for your Unit or District? Is there a shortage of Guiders? Do you lose girls because of these reasons? Have you ever considered registering these girls in a Lone Unit until such time as they can be placed into an Active Unit? This may help to avert the loss of girls from Guiding. There are Lone Units for every branch from Sparks to Senior Branches that work on the same program as Active Units.
