Helpful Sparks that’s what we are
Travelling round the world so far.

Sparks are found in many lands
Rainbows, Pippins all join hands.

We like to learn of Wagggs countries
Where there’s a friend for you and a friend for me!

As Sparks arrive have each Spark decorate a suitcase (Girl Guide cookie box) for their trip around the world. Don’t forget to make and attach a luggage tag. As girls travel and collect crafts etc. they can pack them in their suitcase.

As Sparks visit various countries they could color a small, 1X2 inch, flag of the country. Punch two small holes at the top of the flags and string them together to create an international necklace.

POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES:

China:
Make paper bag lanterns
Decorate paper lunch bags, and stuff with newspaper. Close top with elastic and attach to a stick. Play Chinese music and let girls make up a “Chinese Lantern Dance”

Mexico:
Play pin the tail on the donkey

All Countries:
Play the “Flag Memory Game”. Prepare ahead of time, 20 pairs of 1X2 inch flags on recipe cards. Place flag cards face down. Girls take turns turning over cards to match pairs. Continue until all pairs have been matched.

All Countries
Prepare ahead of time an international golf course for the girls to play. They could make their own clubs from long paper rolls. Balls could be newspaper balls or ping pong balls. Golf course could include:
-cardboard donkey or donkey pinata (ball goes through donkeys legs) - Mexico
-cardboard butterfly with holes in wings for ball to go through - Mexico
-cardboard mountain with hole for ball - Switzerland
-crocodile made from a large cereal box painted green. Lay it flat and cut off flaps from open end in a zig zag shape to make teeth. Be sure to leave big enough spaces between teeth so balls can go through. Add eyes on the top of the box. - Africa
-elephant made from large cereal box painted pink or gray or??? Cut off flaps on open end. Draw an arch on both sides of box and cut out. Add ears, eyes and trunk. - Africa

India:
Play the game “Shikari” found in the Sangam Sparkle Pack. This resource is available from your Area International Adviser.

Japan:
Style the Sparks hair and put chopsticks in for decoration. Have plenty of elastics to put up hair. Even short hair can be put in a small pony tail so that chopsticks can be attached.

Finish the evening by having girls wear housecoats, that they have brought, for Kimonos. You could also use large adult size button up shirts and tie them closed with belts. In Kimonos, with hair done have girls sit on floor and serve juice in Japanese teapots and cups. Also serve an assortment of international snacks. Attach flags to toothpicks to put in the various snacks depending on what country the snack is from.
