For a meeting (or a couple of meetings!) you could divide up the patrols in your Guide group and give them an interesting challenge to work on as a patrol.
This might also give them some ideas towards moving on to Pathfinders and Senior Branches and some day applying for an International trip or being part of an Independent trip. These challenges include parts of the Traveller, World Guiding, and Interpreter Badges.
Have each patrol
1. choose a country
2. make up a possible itinerary
3. make up a list of items needed to go on this trip
4. decide what type of transportation is necessary to get there
5. where they might stay when there
Then, have each girl take home some internet/library research “homework” on the following to be brought to the next meeting:
1. a map showing where they would travel
2. currency exchange for that country
3. language spoken and some simple phrases if possible
4. weather during that typical timeframe
5. accommodations
6. costs for transportation
7. the name of an organization that helps travelers
8. the name of the Guides in that country and their Promise and Law.
Possible resources for the above include:
www.wagggsworld.org for info about all WAGGGS countries
www.oanda.com/converter/classic for currency conversion
www.babelfish.altavista.com for approximate translations
www.weather.com for news and maps
www.aircanada.ca or www.expedia.com for flight info & accommodation
Your local library has internet access plus all types of books with information covering the above topics.
Enjoy your imaginary journey!
