The following standards have been developed to ensure that all Guiding websites in British Columbia are consistent with the policies and objectives of Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada. While the primary objective of your site may be to inform and communicate with your Members and your local community, it must also present a positive image of Guiding to the world at large.
-
Websites may be developed by all levels of Guiding: i.e., individual Units, Districts, Divisions, and Areas.
-
Sites may be linked to the Provincial website and other appropriate non-commercial sites. Refer to POR for policies regarding lobbying and advocacy.
-
Under no circumstances may Guiding sites be used to promote Members’ businesses or non-Guiding interests or any commercial enterprise.
-
Sites must follow the guidelines for use of the Logo and Symbol and the Guide Style Guide. These guidelines are available from the Provincial PR Committee.
-
Copyright law must be followed:
Written permission must be received from any author or artist whose work is reproduced on the site;
Permission must be obtained to reproduce articles from Pipeline, and Canadian Guider.
Crests and badges may be reproduced and all Guiding clip art may be used.
-
Do not duplicate any material that is already on the Provincial or National web sites.
-
Sites must follow the following security precautions:
Names of Guiders should not be posted on the site without their written permission.
Names of girls, ages, or locations should only be posted on the site with the written permission of the parents or guardians.
All photographs used on the site must have the written permission of everyone in the photograph. These permission forms must be retained for as long as the material is on the site.
Wherever possible use 1-800-565-8111 as the contact phone number.
If another phone or fax number is used, do not include the name of the Guider.
Do not post confidential information on an unsecured website, e.g.: Council or Committee meeting minutes.
-
Any Unit web site should have the permission of their parent-Council to build their site.
-
Before going live, the site must be approved by the Provincial PR Committee.
-
Once the site is active, regular monitoring is required.
