Teddy Bears For Kids


YOU WILL NEED:

1 1/2 -50 gram balls of Canadiana Sayelle yarn
a small amount of contrasting trim colour
size 3.50 hook, polyester stuffing

CROCHETED TEDDY BEAR

BACK OF HEAD:

Chain (ch) 2

  • First round - work 6 single crochets (sc) in second chain from hook, do not join rounds, but mark beginning of each round.

  • 2nd round - work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 sc.

  • 3rd round - increase 6 sc evenly around - 18 sc

  • 4th round - increase 6 sc evenly around -24 sc

  • Repeat as above -6 sc increase in each round

  • 5th - 30 sc; 6th - 36 Sc; 7th - 42 sc; 8th - 48 sc; 9th - 54 sc; 10th -60 sc.

  • Join with a slip stitch in the next stitch. Break off.

FRONT OF HEAD:

  • Work as for back of head. Sc pieces together - stuffing slightly.

BACK OF EAR:

  • Work as for back of head through 3rd round - 18 sc. Make 2.

FRONT OF EAR:

  • With trim colour work as for back of ear. Make 2. Stuff slightly and sc together using main colour. Leave wool to sew ears to head.

NOSE:

  • With trim colour, work as for back of head - 1st round 6 sc. Join main colour to trim and continue 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rd. Work 3 rds, plain - no increases. Sew to front of head between eyes, slightly below centre. Make felt eyes - 1 inch white ovals, with 3/8 in. black circles - sew on above the snout. Embroider eyelashes above eyes and mouth below snout.

BACK OF BODY:

  • Using main colour, chain 6. 1st rd. - work 3 sc in second chain from hook, sc in next 3 chains, 3 sc in next chain, and sc in the other side of the 3 chain stitches. Continue in rounds increasing 6 sc evenly around each round. Mark beginning of each round.

  • Lst rd. - l2sc;2ndrd.- l8sc;3rdrd. -24sc; 4thrd. -3osc;

  • 5th rd. - 36sc; 6th rd. -42 sc; 7th rd. -48 sc; 8th rd. -54sc;

  • 9th rd. -60 sc; 10th rd. -66 sc; and 11th rd. - 72 sc. Make 2. These should be slightly oval. Stuff and sc together.

LEGS:

  • With trim, work as for back of body through 2nd rd. Join main colour and with 18 sc work 8 rows - no increases. Make 4. Stuff and sew leg edges together. Sew to body.

FINISHES:

  • Sew head to body - overlapping slightly. Chain a trim to make a bow around the neck.
