CELEBRATE EARTH DAY APRIL 22 EVERY YEAR
The first Earth Day was held in the United States in 1970 as an environmental awareness event. The first International Earth Day was held in 1990. Today more than six million Canadians and people in more than 180 countries celebrate Earth Day in events that address local environmental issues. The entire month of April is used to hold events and projects related to Earth Day.
Here are some suggestions on how to get involved in Earth Day either by yourself or with your Unit:
Be a Zero Hero! For one day (or one meeting) try to create ZERO waste. Reduce, reuse, recycle or compost everything.
Conduct a litter pick-up at a nearby park, stream, or other local green space.
Visit a fish hatchery, bird sanctuary, wildlife refuge, recycling depot, compost demonstration garden, etc.
Make something useful out of items that have already been used once.
Volunteer at a local Earth Day event.
